Is gabapentin something she specifically needs, or can it be used as just a sedative? Asking b/c I really ought to take our little old lady to the vet, but she's deathly afraid and terribly stressed out every time, to the point where she can't be properly examined. A feral cat rescue i follow https://Tinykittens.com uses Gabapentin on their cats when they need a vet appointment as it can help suppress the fight/flight response in cats.

Francie gets it just for vet visits because she would get too terribly afraid and stressed out, panting and drooling, struggling to get away. It has really helped ease her distress on vet days - you should ask your vet about it for your kitty!

Dunno if it's horribly expensive where you are, but I'm lucky enough to have a vet who will do home visits especially for elderly or hyper-nervous cats. It reduces my stress, and that of the kitties.
