I actually feel like an idiot for previously believing that everyone wanted low unemployment. The ruling class likes having a large chunk of the population perpetually unemployed. It suppresses wages and keeps people in line.

For the same reason that even though it makes more economic sense to provide housing for people without it (as evidenced in cities that have done this), TPTB will never do it, because people experiencing homelessness exist as a warning to the rest of us.
I saw this clearly for the first time after the 2008 crash -- ownerhsip had more power in the labor market than ever before and were desperate for recovery to not be *too* much or happen *too* quickly.
Keeping people desperate for almost having their basic needs is a great way to make things like free healthcare and public college seem like unattainable, wasteful luxuries of the elite.
I think tanking the economy was always on the cards. Once it happens, the American Oligarchs will buy up everything. Land, businesses, infrastructure. Like the carve up of the Soviet Union.
And just wait, I can see the oft-repeated narrative now:
"The reason why unemployment is so high now is because they fired all the lazy government workers who showed that they really were worthless because they couldn't get other jobs in the private sector."
They've already gotten people to think the last two years have been awful, and I think they are going to try and pin the fallout here to Biden as well.
The most fucked part is, they might succeed because Dems just cannot stop doing nothing
I don't think Musk will succeed in tanking the economy. COVID was a black swan event. It drove millions of boomers out of the work force.
It fundamentally tilted power in favor of labor like the black plague did in medieval Europe.
Fed employees are among the most qualified in the world.

It’s not a pleasant pill to swallow.
we really fucked ourselves normalizing dual income households, in hindsight

Book it.

Let's just see how long "temporary" lasts.
