"We don't work for DOGE. We have always worked for you." Yes!

Of the Chiefs of Staff, vice chiefs of staff, and judge advocates general of the three branches, Trump fired all the women and Black people.

Another scoop from @peard33.bsky.social: DOGE installed Tom Krause at the Treasury Department. He's keeping his job as the CEO of a software company that has millions of dollars in federal contracts, including with the Treasury Department www.wired.com/story/krause...

“I believe that his abrupt firing puts the security of veterans services at risk” a source with knowledge of VA systems said. “Eliminating the person responsible for the security of veteran info on VA.gov erodes the quality of the service for the veteran. It’s reckless” www.wired.com/story/doge-u...

never imagined giving a bankrupt casino owner access to the nation's treasury could go so awry

Judge Dale Ho invites Paul Clement, superstar conservative lawyer, to present arguments on the Justice Department's motion to dismiss the Eric Adams case. Clement will advise Ho about whether he can refuse to dismiss the charges. This is very funny. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

NEW: We spoke with federal workers grappling with symptoms of paranoia around technology due to DOGE's incursion, including some fearful of their own home networks, and take a hard look at the range of tools the government currently uses to monitor its workforce: www.wired.com/story/survei...

please, no one should have to listen to that much avicii

My latest piece in WIRED with @dell.bsky.social and @peard33.bsky.social DOGE Sparks Surveillance Fear Across the US Government www.wired.com/story/survei...

The National Science Foundation fired all its experts. The National Science Foundation. Fired. All of its. Experts. And they weren't even told to! The leadership worked toward the Fuhrer and went beyond the cuts demanded of them in anticipation of many, many more firings—up to *half* its staff.

someone has added a banner to the FCC Complaints page so that anyone going to file a complaint first gets asked if they want to join in a complaint re: “investigating news distortion at 60 Minutes” consumercomplaints.fcc.gov

forgot i did this like five months after they laid us all off

Lawyers at Twitter are reportedly threatening advertisers to spend more money on the platform “or else” Elon Musk will use his connections with Trump to hurt their companies.

which is it bro

prosecutors treating “plain view” charges as “conduct related to” 🙃

Sure looks like Google News caught the Latin Times using a large language model to write an article picking up on my latest report

A bug in two closely-related stalkerware apps, Cocospy and Spyic, is exposing the personal data of millions of people who have the software unwittingly installed on their phones: techcrunch.com/2025/02/20/s...

Over on LinkedIn, the head of the Executive Secretariat of the NIH -- a central part of NIH leadership 🧪🩺-- resigned with a lettter worth reading www.linkedin.com/posts/nathan...

Tough situation. Maybe at some point we can amend the Constitution to provide a specific power Congress can use against an executive who’s unlawfully usurping its authority.

The DOGE website claims it was last updated on February 17. But in the past 24 hours, they apparently quietly removed two USAID contracts worth $655M a piece. The site still claims $55B in savings. Contracts: www.usaspending.gov/award/CONT_I... www.usaspending.gov/award/CONT_I...

Today on the Uncanny Valley News Update: @couts.bsky.social on what DOGE might want from your data, and why the Watergate-era Privacy Act *might* be able to prevent them from accessing it: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/u...

the fact five days passed before he even sent this basically demonstrates this is 1A covered speech; clearly no anticipation of an imminent act. second, you can't just halve a metaphor that way. if he thinks he meant real "weapons" he must also believe there's a real "bar fight" occurring someplace.

Wow. DOGE is far more expensive than the USDS that it pretends to be. www.propublica.org/article/doge...

On top of everything else it's just hard to get over how dumb all this is www.wired.com/story/doge-i...

In case you were wondering how the Trump admin was still freezing NIH funds, despite court orders, this is how. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

"Spend more on Elon Musk’s social-media platform, or else." "A lawyer at advertising conglomerate Interpublic Group fielded a phone call ... from a lawyer at X. The message was clear ... Get your clients to spend more on Elon Musk’s social-media platform, or else." A merger could be tanked. Gift!

There's a lot going on right now, but this story from @dell.bsky.social and @dmehro.bsky.social is horrifying. Basically, in contravention of its own policies, Google's ad technology allows clients to identify and target people identified as, say, struggling with opioid addiction or gambling debt.

NEW: NIST staffers expect ~500 people—incl. 3 lab directors who were promoted in the last year—to lose their jobs as soon as tomorrow, as part of the DOGE purge, sources tell @wired.com. @willknight.bsky.social, @peard33.bsky.social, and @leahfeiger.bsky.social report: www.wired.com/story/the-na...

Bless you to the folks at @wired.com for this fantastic piece. I spent all day contemplating how to write a thread explaining all of this but now I don’t have to. I remember thinking Musk’s shitler youth might struggle because our computer systems are older than their parents 🙃 I hate being right.

thank god we banned tiktok

Read the whole thread (and article). This is important and alarming and indicative of why the lack of data protection legislation in the US is such a problem. The big tech promises of self regulation and accountability rarely come to pass.
