My MLIS husband is up to four people now who’ve started i-school since they’ve met him. It’s madness! And for the person here who compared it to studying rotary phones, I’m a healthcare administrator and my husband earns more than me. It’s in demand.
Haha, sounds like you’re about to have a whole family of librarians! 📚 It’s funny how passions can ripple through the people around us. Who knows, maybe you’ll catch the bug too—or at least have endless book recommendations coming your way! 😄
My guidance counselor suggested a career in the library for me WAY back in the day, but I said no, I want something exciting like journalism. I kick myself some days for not taking his advice.
My aunt and cousin were librarians so I decided to get my master’s in Information Science from the Library school at University of North Texas. It was well worth it!
The University of Missouri is the only university in my state that confers an MLS degree. In a strange coincidence, MO is near the bottom in most national measures of academic achievement.
Over winter break I've realized that I'm too old to be able to afford one now and that's...not ideal. Wish I could just take a cataloguing class on its own, but that's not an option : /
Have you explored Library Juice Academy? Lots of individual courses on library topics offered online at pretty reasonable prices. https://libraryjuiceacademy.com
No problem. I took a cataloging course through them several years ago before I went to library school and learned a lot. IIRC they periodically offer sales and discounts on courses and many courses are given a few times per year.
It is Graduate
Graduate non-degree seeking applicants may take up to 12 undergraduate or graduate credit hours at the University of North Texas. I'm an academic Advisor for a Library Science program.
