Lego isn't singular - it's a continuous material. Like you don't say terracotta and terracottas.
Singular is "a piece of Lego" or "a Lego brick" and plural is "Lego bricks" or "pieces of Lego".
Being continuous, you can say "a box of lego" like you'd say "a glass of water", and "tip out the Lego!"

Yea, according to the show LEGO Masters, the judges and people who work for LEGO get irritated when people say LEGOs or LEGO blocks/bricks.
