Honestly, you're really good. I'm a typical millennial so I preach and scold and it doesn't create healthy discourse. Your videos are often more like a discussion. You'll call out objective shitty behavior but you're more of an educator
omg I wrote a paper on that exact Secret Life arc in college circa 2011 and watched that scene dozens of times while writing. the virginity-loss plane crash lives in my mind forever, and I’m glad to know of someone else with the same weirdly specific affliction lol
I briefly went looking for the paper in my files yesterday and didn’t find it, but I did remember that it was about Amy, Adrian, and Grace, and that I looked at the show as a sort of modern morality play. I suspect my 21-year-old self (annoying atheist) would’ve been pretty uncharitable toward Grace
—if I were to revisit now, I’d take her beliefs and fears more seriously & would probably look at her response to that pairing of events as religious scrupulosity/magical thinking. At the time, I’m sure I saw her reaction as absurd, but I now see it as a cartoonish version of a realistic response!
Cartoonish version of a realistic response I think is exactly right! Which I think is so interesting in that scene because the show itself is so sex negative and I can't tell whether or not it knows that that is a reasonable but not factual response for Grace to have lol. Like I think yes it does-
But also doesn't the rest of the show kind of prove over and over again that you do get punished with bad things when you have sex. So is she even wrong in the universe that she lives in? With the morals of secret life and how much it hated Adrian lol
