Just started The Women. I was reading Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy, and didn't like the MC enough to spend a whole book with her. A flawed character adds depth, but there's a limit to how flawed before I can't connect with her.

I really like it so far! Interesting pacing and use of POV. Definitely some dark themes, so read it when you’re in the right head space! Oddly, an author friend of mind didn’t like it at all, though. 🤷‍♀️ A good reminder that there are different readers out there for different authors!

Honestly, we just happen to have finished books at roughly the same time & said we’d swap.
Some of my writing group have already looked at my opening chapters so once I’m done with final edits, they’ll get my finished MS as first round betas. I trust them and they give brilliant & honest feedback.

My group meets every 2-3 weeks depending on people’s schedules. 4 of us, so 2 share about 25 pages each time. It’s great when working on a first draft, but too slow when we have a finished draft.

Oh we are nowhere near as organised. My writing groups just say when we have time to read a beta.
My closest writer friends regularly do a page dump for each other to critique quickly, and because we’ve been chatting about our MSs for ages we’re all eager to get our hands on them ASAP 😅

That’s great! In my group, each of us has different strengths so feedback is helpful. The problem w our schedule can be that we forget plot details sometimes 😅 And the whole slow pace as I mentioned. I’m thankful for them though!
