Probably no election before October, I'm thinking. The Liberals are going to want the new leader to have some time building up a public image and to reverse as much of the CPC polling gains as possible. And the NDP have no appetite to lose the limited leverage they have right now.

I think the problem is that most of his likely voters don't really care one way or another, will shrug and say "eh tired of Trudeau". A good number of Canadians will willingly vote against their own interests out of apathy and ignorance and they'll take the rest of us down with them.

to be pedantic, and precise, I think it is the GovGen who prorogues parliament, at the request of the Crown's First Minister.
One of the few actual powers of the GovGen is to accede to the PM's request or refuse to do so.
As in 2008 , for the GG to refuse would be a major controversy.
