Also, I never realized till I drew this - the dragon design is quite insane to hand animate? Like this one has 3 rows of neck spikes, that must be drawn for every frame!
(I also thought his name was Breyak, but in my defense, I couldn't read credits back then)
Did you know that Smrgol and Bryagh have the same voice actor? James Gregory is listed on Wiki for both.
Remember you mentioning this series! Really cool to see it in your style
bruh my childhood <3333 hella cool
Flight of Dragons art in 2025, fabulous work ♥
Very cool, Bryagh was such a cool dragon and you totally his fierce visage here. I can practically hear his roar and the rearing posture before the wall of flames is awesome!
I have gathered
The sum total
Of the world's evil
In one place
And that place
Is me
Ommadon - voiced by only James Earl bloody Jones I shit you not
I love this.
We got the blu ray and it was nice to see it again. It’s not restored as well as Disney stuff, but the fact it even exists in a modern format is great.
DOOM! DOOM!
Oh god that's a big childhood memory for me and Bryagh looks so awesome here too!
Both are kinda obscure now, but you can find info online & see pics from both on sites like this one:
The show is still available on blu ray & dvd too.
They were both animated by proto-Ghibli, weren't they? The actual studio that did the animation.
Topcraft also did Nausicaa. It later dissolved and reformed (paraphrasing, its complicated apparently) into Studio Ghibli.

I loved both the book and the film as a kid.
The rest of the story is adapted from another book called The Dragon and the George (1976) by Gordon R. Dickson.
