the biggest misconception is that sex work/nsfw is the easy way out or a cheat to get popular
if that were the case, everyone who did it would blow up and be successful

It's valid work. Not always easy work.
But when women do it without their say so they become very angry and turn into gigantic prudes all of the sudden.
But when it's a woman just existing and having big boobs or like doing it for fun as a Vtuber they become angry because they can't have it.
It's almost like they feel provoked by them.
It's the same with joke doodles blowing up while 20 hour pieces flop.
20 hours with no substance will almost always be beaten by a scribble with something to say
Like a few weeks ago I remember seeing some1 with an Aristotle profile pic argue about how comics are a waste of time and not intellectual enough.
I asked him how comics are a waste of time but not arguing about it on Bluesky and got blocked lmao.
You don't need to have something deep, dark and dramatic to say to resonate with people, but when we think of substance in art, that's what we've been trained to think of.
idk why positive feelings aren't given value
NSFW content is viewed as indecent and as a base instinct, and they view everything as either good or bad and are very reactionary and close-minded about it.
A lot of the art people look at today as '' high art '' was just intended to be pornographic by the artist.
Then there's the culturally Christian assumption that sex makes it inherently inferior.
My experience the 20+ years I've played the genre has been the exact opposite lol.
Especially in ERP women are over-represented, and I mean look at the BG3 fandom.
1) A lot of people do what they love and get paid.
2) They're not seeing the immense amount of preparation, study and iterative improvement that goes into their craft.
I'am not popular at all XD
But ultimately it's a handful of artists out of millions who make a lot of money on Patreon.
A lot of the big NSFW artists are also personalities on top of being artists.
It doesn't work for everyone, it still took me 16 years to get here, and people should only do it if they like making it, but its not hard to see where the idea comes from.
SFW can absolutely do this too, but you need to actually choose to incorporate that kind of appeal.
It's the same with suggestive content in games, if the game is bad or just okay people blame the suggestive content.
But games are bad or okay ALL THE TIME without it too.
People will play game after game that have just okay or even bad writing for example and say nothing.
Then they play one with suggestive content and they suddenly blame the suggestive content.
The writers didn't design the characters either lol.
But I mean just in general, the gameplay and writing etc isn't average or bad because of sexy outfits...
People just love to scapegoat it.
At this point, I just love reminding people that Disney's official vaults have decades old NSFW drawings they are contractually obligated to keep.
If it were easy even my dumb ass could do it successfully.
Yeah.
No matter what you do, it comes down to some extent skill, and then to a much larger extent the whims of fate and personability.
So yeah. That sticks, it's more about shares and circulations than anything.
When I need to support single moms I'll go on twitch
And sometimes fame can be awful
Trafficking is bad, but if a consenting adult wants to it as a full or a part time gig, I really dont see why that is hated
People really dont have to look at it if they dont want to
It gives the idea that NSFW art just gets more attention.
No matter what they seem to do, their previous work follows them in an "if you know you know", wink-wink-nudge-nudge way. It gets really annoying.
I watched this hit hard with a youtuber. He does some of the best guides for Hitman games on the web. But then Hitman hit a lull where there was no new content and he tried to branch out and got no views.
But it depends.
Most people who make that plunge, often were already drawing stuff that was NSFW adjacent. At the very least horny/attractive art. So people are going to be interested when they go further.
Yeah your current audience might not be on board to follow your hardcore Yaoi account and vice-versa.
On one hand the series actually has a friggin awesome concept for it
On the other hand the series horny content is mostly HARD SA so I doubt itβll work.
That franchise and how it's perceived really frustrates me, because I feel like the entire perception that people have of the game is based upon the gacha fanservice/ dating game.
People almost always conflate the two as if they're the same.
And the sheer volume of work people put out for fans sites to feel like they are giving their loyal followers a good deal is stunning.
π
Fully just, think of how many people have truly prodigious outputs of NSFW.
How many of them are well-known, or even known at all, outside their very specific circles?
Their YT channel didn't immediately take off, or they're struggling to find an audience for their niche subject matter
But finding and building an audience takes WORK, let alone a paying audience
π
Its not
I'm honest enough to admit that even when I was fully healthy, I was at most a 3 out of 10 and not fit for that type of work.
π€
Still takes time and effort
All work is work and takes skill, even if u donβt get paid.
Orz
People are gonna catch on to you not liking what you're doing
Tldr you need to have a genuine unhinged gooner brain to comfortably do NSFW in this post I will-
All commissions, all nsfw.
Iβve done it for over 5 years.
Itβs not easy. I just love it.
And being able to stay consistent
It takes five minutes of looking around to prove otherwise, but some folks wont do that
More a lie that people believe
I believe how someone sees themselves as "popular" is up to them.
