not a fan of how many nintendo games are just "big toybox with a bunch of jingling keys" nowadays. i'm sure a lot of people like that stuff but this is the least interested i've been in LoZ, 3D mario, etc. despite trying BotW and Odyssey, so it sucks that they keep leaning into that with most things
Comments
Mario Odyssey imo is insanely peak and when you replay old 3D Marios you realize they basically are just Power Moons with backtracking
BotW's gameplay loop isn't finding shrines, its revolutionary open world game design isn't putting stuff. It's the paraglider
And creating a loop of paragliding and moving up things and seeing stuff
And frankly I would play Mario Odyssey if it was just a jungle gym with no real rewards
They make games that are just fun viscerally and they've really leaned into that
it's also that it's like, *all of their games* now, to varying degrees. if it was just some of them, fine, but DK direct was the point where i'm likke "ok this is all they do now"
if its your intention and artistic vision to make an open world collectathon then hell yeah! but it feels like 90% of these games are just following the same formula for the sake of it
like the only reason totk had a whole underground map is bc they could fit it in, even though it was garbage
Like I dropped Tears after like 2 dungeons but I probably put hundreds, if not thousands of hours knto BoTW
- zelda 1. you’re free to explore the world, but you’ll want to do the dungeons in numerical order
- pokémon gen 1. linear start; halfway into the game you can basically follow any path
- metroid 2
and i genuinely liked star allies too 😭
my 1st biggest fear is that it'll have a battle royale mode
i recognize that botw and odyssey were great, but it's very homogenous and atp alienating for me especially
