It's not something that keeps me awake at nights but a rye starter is supposed to be more acidic than a pure wheat starter.

The furthest I've gone down that chute is buying one of those small digital scales jewellers use, to make sure I get the weight of fast action yeast (and things like that) right to the tenths of grams.
Did I need such a thing?
Nah, but it was cheap enough.
