I've seen discussion of if Party House is a deck or bagbuilder and what that even means in a digital context. IMO there is no hard distinction, but to me a bagbuilder is (a) likely to reshuffle more often (b) less likely to have a hand or discard zone (c) has less info on its modules. - ThreadSky

To me, bag-builders also tend to have the various elements sticking around longer, typically through placement on a board or tableaux, e.g. Hyperborea, Quacks, Orleans, Invincible, etc. whereas deck builders tend to generate effects/resources only for one turn.

Interesting take! I haven't played all of these. I remember this being the case in Orleans, but Quacks tokens only last for one turn right?

Kind of. They last the whole 'round', so the total value of all the chips is always increasing, plus they can trigger other effects on subsequent chips or even get moved. It's not 1:1 with deck building, obviously, but, to me, that's what makes bag building stand out as a design choice.

Ah, gotcha. I guess it's all in how you frame it. I see a 'round' in Quacks as much more equivalent to a single longish turn in Dominion where you draw several cards and perform several actions that may affect & build off cards you played earlier.

Yeah, Quacks isn't the best example (and there are deck builders that break that structure) but also I couldn't quite see that design working with cards. Bag-building seems tied more to using tokens/cubes to mark specific things across multiple turns/phases. Don't know if Party House fits that style

One thing in a new game I’m making is you have to reshuffle every turn so maybe it should be a bag instead of a deck??

Yeah! I didn't even consider it because I started the prototype in TTS first. After printing I was like 'this is a lot of shuffling' 😅

The speed of reshuffling & frequent lack of a discard pile combine to make bagbuilders function more like randomness with replacement (ie more like dice).
