The answer is "Dungeons and Dragons". "But Damion, I'm talking about influences on video games here." Yes, I know.

Can't wait to try this game by two of my favorite designers, Richard Garfield and Christian Kudahl! Also a wee bit annoyed (in a friendly way) because it sounds so close to things I've been trying to make & it seems like they actually pulled it off! youtu.be/HMpakGWQwoU?...

I made this the other night while procrastinating, mainly because I thought all the posts about the blackout were boring. It feels like there is momentum bringing people together!

As I mentioned two weeks ago, Fives is one of my favorite new games. But now with this handy new video, it's a lot easier for me to share how it works! www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmlF...

Gonna stop using the word "balance" and start using the word "tuning." Whenever I talk about "balance", I get pulled into conversations about "overbalancing" and how "balance isn't that important actually"--which feel like non-sequitors to me. But I think I've just been using the wrong word.

Protesting is my new weekend hobby. Feels good! #teslatakedown

Pretty weird to have an annoying earworm and the apparent source of it is a dream I had 2 nights ago. Thanks, brain!

After the NY Game Awards, @phubans.bsky.social & I obsessed over this at a barcade until we finally topped the leaderboard. Such a weird & cool design! Feels like a similar mashup to Magic Garden (Snake + Pacman) but takes that brief in a totally different direction. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anteate...

Omg, I love all things pink! 😍 And a good trick taking game, lol In Fives, players are trying to get all their winning cards to add up to 25 without going over. Playing cards as a "magenta 5" was very useful. It took me a round to fully grasp the game play, but it was quite a treat to play!

If you like puzzles, I def recommend Lok Digital (by bsky.app/profile/leti...). I got the physical book a while ago, but it really shines as an app. Unique mechanics, like nothing I've seen before. Unique tutorialization too, that makes deducing rules yourself part of the experience. lok-digital.com

I need a name for "games with modular rules", ie games where a significant portion of the rules are found on game components rather than in the rulebook. ATM I'm likely to just go with "modular games", even though it fails to disambiguate from games with modular non-rules content, like maps.

I've seen discussion of if Party House is a deck or bagbuilder and what that even means in a digital context. IMO there is no hard distinction, but to me a bagbuilder is (a) likely to reshuffle more often (b) less likely to have a hand or discard zone (c) has less info on its modules.
