Bought a battery Sawzall from Home Depot and they had to unlock the cabinet walk it to the checkout and stand there while I paid for it before they'd let me touch it

People were stealing the the razor blades and probably taking them apart for use in cutting lines to do drugs. And also because inflation.
Theft is what has caused all of this and I get it with the profit vs loss that these stores have gone thru.

I think things have been locked up for a long time because companies made the decision that it wasn't worth employee safety to go after shoplifters so they'd allow a level of theft and when that became overwhelming
they started locking stuff up

I could see that because they don’t check every item you buy. I do think our Costco is a little more thorough than others we’ve been too. But overall, it could be better.

Our Walmart does it. And when there are multiple people going through a regular department store, no one’s going to have patients for that. They will walk out. I don’t run stores so I don’t know what’s behind the decision making. I stay away from our Walmart as much as possible. Winco for us

Yup. I went to QFC and weirdly the jumbo bottles of Tide were locked up (but not the medium bottles??). So I kept walking and bought it at Costco the next time I was there

It’s insane and makes it so much harder to cut ties with the likes of Amazon - I loathe the idea of giving Bezos any more money but when we have to wait 10+ min to obtain necessary items for day to day living, if we can get them at all, it’s just not sustainable. We shouldn’t have to waste our time

Our detergent (!?), liquor and batteries are locked up in our grocery, and I am positive it's losing them business. I buy em all online now.
