Do you know why a simple majority in both houses was decided against by the framers of the constitution? They were very very clever men fearful of despotic rule as Lord Sumption makes clear, why didn't they see the potential future risk of hyper partisanship?

I generally quite like the American system, its got far greater checks and balances than other countries. But the problem I do have is this reverence to the founding fathers. They were very flawed people and extremely naive

Or - as the Founding Fathers were determined to prevent and drafted a Constitution with that objective in mind - to ensure that the fledgling USA didn’t exchange a King Over The Water for a King at home. (As UK law is administered in the King’s name, doesn’t that exclude the King from its effect?)

US system certainly has its flaws, but I still think its a superior system. It has far greater checks and balances than the UK has for example, which is basically a 5 year elected dictatorship

'The president derives his powers directly from the Constitution and is not answerable to Congress except by way of impeachment.' A few inaccuracies in this, for a start, congress provides the President with the money to enact things, w/o money the President cant do much.
