I didn't want to have my name/account used by someone else, so I made it private and haven't used it in over a year and a half. It was very hard giving up years of posting, community and contacts, but it was the right thing for me and I was shocked how much better I felt once I'd left.

I only saved my Miles Davis toilet video (what a sentimental old fool) and waved ta-ta. I don't regret it; it had been so awful for so long. That doesn't take anything away from what it was like when it was the most wonderful place for me during very low and lonely times between 2009 and 2016.

I was real sad to delete mine and my old username was snapped up in no time. Had to accept it was a fun phase of my life but I really couldn’t continue there in any way. It’s been really brutal to watch it be destroyed.

Yeah I deleted mine not to long ago because I didn't want that data being used to train AI. Nothing private in there apart from DMs, obviously, but still. Yes a shame can no longer search my half a million odd tweets and the download didn't save interactions or quotes and loads of other stuff.

I downloaded my data. I'm going to delete the tweets, but keep the handle. But I've not been active there in a while, and I feel the most effective way to deprive the platform of power is just to not use it. If enough people do that, it will eventually cease to be relevant.

I get that, and have most of my photos backed up etc, but there are other people’s photos of me, post and other details that are all stored there. If I just wanted to ditch the site it would mean giving up on a lot of personal history.

Yes that's a different question, well, more than one. You could save all the photos to a hard drive - even those that aren't yours.

I'm not suggesting you delete it. I believe social media is going to enter a commodified phase now growth is limited. Facebook might become more sane again.
