I’m so sorry, it’s all shit it really is. They things come in threes - here in the uk we’ve had disability benefit cuts announced and now this trans rights news. What next I wonder? The homeless?
Context: US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. continues to sugggest that people like me "destroy families" and should be eradicated.
Researchers widely agree that better screening accounts for the increase in diagnoses, especially among historically marginalized communities.
Context: The UK's 2004 Gender Recognition Act allowed trans folks to legally change their sex on their birth certificate, but only between male and female (no recognition of nonbinary folks was permitted), and now the British Supreme Court has decided no trans person deserves recognition.
Anti-trans rhetoric is on the rise in Canada and our rights are being curtailed provincially even though it goes against the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Canadian Human Rights Act, and various provincial and territorial human rights codes.
Referring to trans women as "biological males" - these are the exact same people and Poilievre's election will result in the exact same laws being passed here in Canada:
Poilievre will use the notwithstanding clause for law and order, then normalize it's use, and go after trans, then cisgender and abortion before moving onto the church and bibles in schools. I exaggerate but it's a slippery slope.
Americans largely think things are just fine and dandy in Canada, and going there will solve all their problems. Unfortunately Canada is very similar to the US in some really big ways!

It's a shame so many people seem to find my existence inconvenient and would prefer that I die because they don't like my poems or pronouns.
