Such a wonderfully written piece on the personal impact and implications of what it means to be a trans woman in the UK today, and the unfairness, anxiety and destabilization this ruling has engendered.

What a great day to be autistic and trans.

Nothing is easy about being trans, and it really should be. It's not that complicated, but everyone else makes it about themselves, which makes it more difficult to simply live and be happy. Whether that means social, legal, or medical changes, it doesn't have to be that difficult.

The case for abolishing gender markers on legal documents is stronger than the case for including them, so why do they persist?

it's making me crazy that the uk court essentially ruled trans women are not women because you can't change your sex and trans men are not women because they did change their sex how can anyone take this shit seriously? It's a farce

Why does ‘protecting women’ never look like harsher punishments for rape, assault and femicide that almost exclusively happens at the hand of cis men? Why isn’t it free sanitary products? Why not more money into the NHS to help sick women? Why is it always an attack on our most vulnerable sisters?

if you are a cis person it costs you nothing to just say today that you see & hear your trans sisters & brothers & others over in the UK today -- and around the world, too, knowing that rulings like today's ripple out in ugly ways.

being mean on social media is embarrassing

Toad sat on the edge of his bed. “Blah,” said Toad. “I feel down in the dumps.” “Why?” asked Frog. “I am thinking about tomorrow,” said Toad.

Current vibe.

I am once again begging people to realize that the law is words on paper and is not self executing. "That's illegal" is not and has never been synonymous with "that's impossible" or "that can't be done." "That's illegal" means "you might get in trouble for that depending on who you are."

Just got word from my college roommate - who is the state archivist for the state of South Dakota - that due to the DOGE shutdowns of IMLS, they can no longer fund InterLibrary Loan in SD. This means exchange between libraries, ability to get books delivered across the system, is gone as of 4/30.

Some lighter news for Monday morning...

There's nothing funnier than watching some dudebro rage after he just told you to "chill." I calmly pointed out your hypocrisy. I'm not the one who's flustered, bro. That's all you.

The Trump Administration sent Harvard a detailed list of extreme demands on Friday. It called for the dismantling of "DEI" Harvard centers, including a legal clinic, tha study human rights, and the surveillance of students political views. Harvard has responded and rejected these demands.

reminder: trans ppl make up less than one percent of the population of this country and everything the ppl in our media and political class complain about has been the status quo for decades. when they say 'trans rights have gone too far' they're talking about rights we've had for DECADES.

Obviously things have got dramatically worse in the US recently, and I don't want to diminish that, but I've been at *so many* conferences in the UK on topics like empire, humanitarianism and development where multiple speakers from the Global South have been denied visas or held at the border

1,100 pieces against trans people in just 4 papers over 1 year. Almost 1 a day per paper. With absolutely no recourse at all. Is it any wonder that trans people are both angry and terrified?
