I didn’t plan to share this, but with a lot of people (very understandably) spinning out about the state of the world right now, I wanted to put some good out into the ether in hopes that it will cause more good.
A couple months ago I felt the lowest I’ve felt in years. Maybe ever.

This is very cool Jake. Cookies look pretty damn good too!
Also, I’m a big believer in that you help the world community with the fun songs. A FF Weird Al
Keep doing your part. From where I can see the role you played canvassing helped too. Can’t buy our democracy 🤘🏻
Thanks for sharing, feel free to send some cookies up to Canada to make up for the tariffs 😂
But glad I could give a little nudge!
…and I don’t think my cookies would survive the transit. 😁
Glad my little streak of light could cut through.
And you’re absolutely right. Community’s everything right now.
I was unwell.
Because the world seemed to be crashing down on my head – on everyone’s heads – and so I didn’t want to look up anymore.

During a doom-scrolling marathons, the algorithm presented me a video of an older man going door to door, inviting his neighbors to a party at his house. With handwritten invitations.
It overwhelmed me.

I went to the grocery store and bought a bunch of sugar, flour, and even some stupidly expensive eggs.
And then I spent the next weekend baking and dropping off cookies to my neighbors.
Nothing crazy. Nothing world-changing. But I was doing *something*.

In the days and weeks that followed, we received a heaping of thank you notes and assorted baked goods in return.

My wife ran into our across-the-street neighbor (who she'd only seen from afar) at a brewery where she moonlights as a beer-tender. One of the first things he said was "Are you the cookie house?"

And it continued to feel good for a long time afterward, not because of the nice words and baked goods from our neighbors (well ok, partly that), but because I felt like I made an impact.
A small dent in our little community.
