My daughter did this the other day, when she very kindly took it upon herself to make me a pot of tea for the first time. I was suitably flabbergasted but, when she asked why, "my spade turned", as Wittgenstein might say. All I knew was that it was the end of civilization.
I am confident that if this was the traditional method then people would defend it just as vehemently as they will defend the actual traditional method against my innovation
