Apple doesn’t need its own TV set. But it should make a low-cost TV streaming stick to bring its content, apps and smart home features to more households https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2024-11-24/apple-should-build-fire-tv-chromecast-rival-llm-siri-plans-oura-glucose-push-m3vnimbg

If Apple comes out with a lower entry cost offer to the market not plagued with ads they will gain huge market share IMO.
For the smart home, the sub-$100 HomePod Mini can serve as a hub (or the iPad lots already own).
I really, really detest such an approach and I think it's just going to be even more confusing for the end users if they go that route. Plus, a stick just feels... wrong.
It could still introduce an entry level Apple TV but I still don't think they can price it in such a way to beat the current sticks/cheapo Android devices.
