If you campaigned for farm subsidies to be restored to pre BREXIT levels you would increase farm incomes. Why do you want to help millionaires? I would have thought 99% of LD voters were unlikely to face IHT of 40% let alone 20% and 10 years to pay.

I think that inheritance tax should be reformed. The allowances haven't been changed, the tax rate is high, and the wealthiest ppl avoid it. Inheritance, I agree, is a lottery and should be taxed but it could be fairer

As a member of the general population, "a fair deal" is what I want. Where the richest pay their fair share. I think Labour's 50% discount and higher thresholds are fair and balanced.

I know you like exciting rides (jet ski etc.), but this is one bandwagon to avoid. Whilst there may be an argument for looking at the thresholds (do you really know how many farms will be affected and by how much?), there is a much better argument for a land tax on the way to a wealth tax.

A better position to take would be to increase the profitability of farms. Campaigning for the government to join up farmers with renewable energy generation would provide farms with guaranteed long term income. There are solar panels suspended above fields in France. We should have that here. 🌞

I know why Ed's doing this (many of our MPs won rural seats vs the Tories).

But most farms won't pay and it's fairly well targeted at those like Clarkson who bought agricultural land to avoid IHT.

The key issue Labour must tackle and ultimately reverse is straightforward:
Close the loophole that allows the purchase of farmland purely as a means to avoid Inheritance Tax (IHT).
NOT scrapping the tax altogether. We should campaign on this basis, not the nonsense guys , it turns people off
