I would have rather they had a single fucking thing planned as backup in case they lost! They had p2025 in their laps for years and yet seem to have been totally blindsided. They’re out of touch and continuing to double down. We need new parties.
I would rather they have any damn answers for anything at all on the campaign trail.
* Talk about what we would do differently in the Middle East.
* Talk about strategies for not letting Ukraine become a forever war.
* Talk about real first-world single payer healthcare.
* Talk about abortion.
* Talk about how if we lose the presidency but win Congress, what we'll do to gum up the works.
* Talk about making sure people _without_ college educations can have decent lives (the focus on getting everyone a college education has clearly failed and alienated people).
If, people truly wanted a third party? They'd run for lower races. State, house, senate.
You can't win the presidency without electoral votes. 3rd parties are scams, if there's ever one that's not? You'll see them running for state assembly, congress, senate. It will take decades to build
Well then let’s start now? And start pushing to disband the electoral college like we should have ages ago? And now is when we need to start running local AND be prepared for massive amounts of money trying to stream in to corrupt.
I used to believe 3rd party was the way. EC takes constitutional change. But Ranked choice would help.
In the last 30 years, we had gwb, and Trump partly because 3rd party grifts
But we also saw the GOP taken over 2x. Tea party and maga, in USA easier to take over a party, than start a new one
I ideally would love a push for more leftists running for local Dem spots, and on a federal level ranked choice as well as outlawing insider trading by members of Congress. Pipe dream: Congress only gets paid minimum wage w/ base universal healthcare, outlaw all lobbying. A girl can dream.
I want less money in politics as a whole. Politicians shouldn't be beholden to their corporate donors
Asking for money after a failure is tone deaf. They didn't even switch up leadership, no accountability. I won't donate to folks who don't adjust their variables
That's nice. Best of luck with that. In the meantime, Dems need money to win races.
Your feelings and your complaints about "tone" are, well, very stupid. I don't think you understand that this is a serious moment. That the Republican Party poses a serious threat.
Girl? I obviously know how dangerous they are. I want my elected officials to act like it too. They won't be able to do that accepting donations from the same people who are set to profit off of Trump.
Kamala raised more small donor money than Trump did in total so I'd revisit that hypothesis.
The Republican party has posed a serious threat since the 80s. And rather than ever do a damn thing to actually stop a rise to power and a goal they've been working towards sincw the Federalist Society was founded (stacking SCOTUS), 1/2
they begged for money crying about protecting Roe but never moved to codify it even when they controlled all 3 branches of government. I'm not a "both sides are equal" but the old, rich Dems who are besties with the GOP and l? Need to GTFO office. We need leaders. Not millionaire grifters. 2/2
Well we know it wasn't the fundraising so maybe they should consider how terrified their constituency is and actually do something instead of worrying about lining coffers.
Could be wrong here but I'm pretty sure we pay our politicians a living wage to DO THEIR JOBS.
I'm very well aware of that. I'm also well aware that they need to actually care about the people and stop playing the both sides game and rubbing elbows with oligarchs if the Dems want to actually win. The class divide is too big and Dems still want to be upper middle class to upper class 1/2
While they beg for money from people who are one paycheck from being unhoused.
The Dems are never willing to do what needs done but always willing to beg for money and it's fucking exhausting as someone who pays attention and understands the system. 2/2
Who are you waiting for? Who else, if not the leader of the Democrats in the Senate or the House stepping up and setting the example. Excusing mediocrity because they gotta go guilt us for money than waste it on losing anyway. While still taking millions from special interest PAC
They sell us out to their corporate overlords, too. But they actually align with our values so we tolerate it.
The problem is they've spent so long thinking that the GOP is playing the same game of "we go back and forth pissing each other off and slowly move forward with time" stands 1/2
I don’t think any of us should be using fundraising numbers as metrics for success. It’s like GDP and the S&P500, it’s a convenient easy number to reach for that doesn’t actually describe life on the ground. What we’ve learned is that $1B doesn’t actually “buy” you anything.
I think the concern is less with the fundraising and more with the fact that they are a directionless party with no core beliefs and no amount of money is going to fix that and they will continue to lose no matter how much $20 we give them.
There is never an excuse for losing. They don't win because they aren't fit to do the job. They cling to their manners and their rules rather than their ideals and their beliefs.
It's ok if people are starving, sick and unhoused, so long as nobody breaks protocol while fixing the institutional rot.
I mean I think them raising more money and losing just proves that money isn't the issue. Maybe it's the fact that they fight like people who know they will be okay no matter who gets elected.

I get that starting a 3rd party is hard, but I feel like even the name Democrat at this point is just bad branding.

The only thing actually stopping Trump right now are judges who were appointed by democratic governors and presidents.
The party isn’t perfect by any means but it’s really our only hope.
They need to adapt to different money expenditures. They need to build orgs that build long term engagement of people outside of just campaigns.
