One of the under-discussed aspects of tech's fascist turn is how they are bad readers of sci-fi, and that goes beyond the 'don't invent the torment nexus' stuff into active contempt for the types of criticism that great sci-fi does because it gets in the way of seeing how cool the Torment Nexus is.
