Awwww! My son is in his Junior year at his university, studying to be a scientist. This reminds me of when he was little and we protested Prop 8 together here in CA. He made a similar type of sign. "Because when I grow up I want to marry who I love" is what it said. Same tiny handwriting too!

When this is what she wants, she will make it happen. You can support by just paying attention to her interests and needs which I think you already do: Access to literature she's interested in, presents reflecting interests (e.g. a telescope).

Due to my background it was a bit harder (no money, no networking connections at start). But if you're intrinsically motivated, you will make it possible. It sounds like your daughter is. So actually you don't have to do so much.

I attended university and got my https://B.sc., https://M.sc. and PhD, meanwhile also doing internships in research. I'm working in cancer research now in industry which is a dream for me. Like many I lost loved ones to cancer and felt the need to change something.

They supported me in the way they could by getting me access to books and journals (library plus bought). In high school I also attended biotechnology club where we did experiments from genetical fingerprinting to genetically engineering bacteria. So biomedical sciences won.

I was also into astrophysics and biology. I started cutting out science-related articles and putting them in an alphabetically organized folder from age 7. My parents were hard workers but not well-educated and we did not have a lot of money.

You’re not alone! She takes after her dad and knows exactly what she wants to be. I am still figuring it out! Some have a clear path, others have many paths. It’s not about the destination, but the journey and what you’ll learn and experience along the way. Just try to enjoy whatever it is you do!
