Indeed they try hard.
But the chain of process steps is too long, the source is too costly, the yields are too low, and in the end the drivertrain is electric anyway.
It is the complex route.

This is correct. Hydrogen is not competitive with battery electric for transportation. The one place H2 had a foothold in the US was CA.
