I learned earlier today that Lord Protector Richard Cromwell's nickname was Tumble-down Dick earlier while I danced in Wonderland and between that and this, my night is absolutely made. Thank you!
Connsidering the sun didnt even bother today, at least in Glasgow, it is hard to say really when it might be getting up time. Today has been the very definition of 'dreich'.
not just having a lie in duvet diving
I am ]]hurkle-durkling'' tomorrow and maybe the day after
And from now on when ever their is a window of opportunity!
I aspire to becoming an award winning "Hurkle-Durkler" some day. I've been practicing dossing around in bed, when I should have gotten up and done stuff, every time the opportunity presents itself.
There are so many words in the Scot's English lexicon. Mum and Dad were well spoken and well read but they both had a much wider vocabulary in what was called "patter". Having lived in England for over 30 years I have lost much of it. The passing of my Mum's generation 1/
is important. I used to call her often just to bathe in her Glaswegian voice. Though she had not been able to go to uni, (cost) she went to Notre Dame girl's school. I miss her soft. warm tones and all those words I will never hear her speak again. One of my faves is "gleekit". Look it up! 🤣
Good morning! I'll spare you the picture but here I am, engaged in a spot of hurkle-durkling, desperately trying to avoid resurfacing on a cold winter's day!
I have hurkle-durkled for 3 weeks following a hip replacement and I plan for this to continue for a further 3 weeks. Then we shall see what feats I will achieve having regained the freedom to walk once more! 🙏😀
I like this as a term so much better than bed rotting. Hurkle-durkling sounds whimsical. Bed rotting sounds like you’re going to need bleach to clean up later.
<-This one is a pro. She stays under the covers after I get up and I’m not one to ever spring out of bed. I thought dogs were supposed to motivate people to get going. Mine enable hurkle-durkling being all warm and velvety in the bed.
I had a similar epiphany when my mother playfully called a cute dog ”wee McSquachle”. For some reason I chose to look it up, and it was in the dictionary!! A term of affection for a child.
I regret not writing down all the Scots words and phrases my relatives used. We’ve lost an awful lot.
Do you have a word for “to go back to bed because a bird got under your bath somehow even though you live in a terrace and had to be rescued because your two feral cats were circling with intent then the dog crapped in the spare room and the washing machine is now playing up” ?
Received a copy of Guilty by Definition for Xmas. Already read & really enjoyed it. I also think I am a hold medallist when it comes to hurkle-durkling....
There should be a word for the cause of it… that feeling of total comfort, perfect temperature, the mind awake but slightly hazed and dreamy, any position the body takes is somehow perfect, the stretch that rebounds to a curl, the turnover that touches a cool spot….

"You know... I'm something of a hurkle-durkling myself."
It's 11:11
It wasn’t fast, or pretty but I got it done 😅
Even though I couldn't make it to work today, I’m fully committed to getting back on track tomorrow.
I'm determined to wrap up this year with impressive productivity!
I have 2 teenagers refusing to wake up. Now I’m about to go and shout at them for
Hurkle-durkling .
A new word enters child control.
With an awful cold, I count myself as a bona fide 'hurkle-durkler' today and all weekend. 🛌📚🍵
But alas, I must grind.
And here I thought it was just called depression.
🙂
Definitely shall be using it.

I might have a new nick name for her. Thanks!
I will celebrate by doing it again tomorrow.
At least I have a word for it now 🫣

Make all this cold dawn darkle
Work and all its hurdles curdle
Murk cuddled feathered covers
Lover curl my hurkle-durkle.
I should get a business card.
Lol
