The horrible fact is that if Trump and Vance decide to defy a SCOTUS order (something Vance said Trump should do during the campaign),SCOTUS has little way to enforce it. It took away its own power it had to hold a renegade president in criminal contempt. Civil contempt will be ineffective. /2

The US Marshalls work for the Executive, not the Judiciary; would they arrest Trump even if there were no immunity? Trump will pardon any Cabinet or lower-ranking officials the Court holds in contempt. I say all this not to because I think resistance is futile. But it won’t yield quick results. /3

The difference is Trump was able to get the rubes. Vance is FAR smarter than Trump, but Trump is charismatic to a certain group of people, and Vance, despite nominally coming from that group, is not. Which is something that an analytic media might want to discuss -- but we don't have that media.
