JUST IN: Judge finds 'probable cause' to hold U.S. in contempt over Alien Enemies Act deportations

I’m just an old-fashioned conservative who thinks that criminals should go to prison after receiving due process, and not to El Salvador or to the White House without it.

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

So we aren’t getting Liberated now? What about Liberation Day?

So the kidnapped people sent to El Salvador . . . those are life sentences. Or what? There were no trials.

If the Supreme Court decides that the government can "erroneously" disappear you off the street to a foreign torture prison, and that federal courts have no power to do anything about it, that is, in a meaningful way, Pretty Much It www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/24...

Trump admin admits it should not have deported Abrego Garcia to El Salvador, but tells SCOTUS no court can require his return because it would intrude on Article II powers to conduct foreign negotiations. If this stands, why can't Trump deport anyone "in error" and not have to undo?

This is a great idea. Do you know anyone in Congress you can talk to?

Come on down to the White House Tesla Auto Mall!

From @kmuw.bsky.social: “In my view, the world is a safer place and, most particularly, the United States is safer whenever we are aligned with our allies, and we're in a continued effort to push the Russians and Putin out of Ukraine,” Moran said.

If you click on the countries on this map, it’s just a reminder of how little we spend on foreign aid compared to overall federal spending. There is waste, but to throw the baby out with the bath water is so short-sighted. Sign-up here: bit.ly/4hyjEP2

Yikes.

Incompetence in Washington puts every American at risk, no matter how you voted. No one should be happy that the DOGE team - the same folks who randomly published classified U.S. security information online today - wants access to your bank account & Social Security numbers.

They are investigating conservative FedSoc lawyers for investigating *checks notes* Democrats????

“I have difficulty understanding how a member of the bar can state unequivocally that this is a constitutional order. It boggles my mind," Coughenour said. "Where were the lawyers when this decision was being made?"

In December, NYT revealed that Elon Musk and SpaceX were failing to meet govt reporting protocol designed to protect state secrets while they haul in billions in Pentagon contracts. This triggered three reviews, according to the NYT. One was from the Defense Department inspector general. 1/

“Now U.S. businesses that sold goods and services to USAID are in limbo…. In 2020, the U.S. government bought $2.1 billion in food aid from American farmers.” www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

U.S. businesses that sold goods and services to USAID are in limbo, including American farms dealing in rice, wheat and soybeans purchased as food aid.

I'm in the @nytimes.com @nytopinion.nytimes.com this morning asking: Who exactly is running the federal government? If we can’t answer that simple question, government officials and civil society must recognize warning signs of state capture and take back what's ours. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/05/o...

@benjaminwittes.bsky.social writes that an FBI "refusing to become political agents of the regime in power would, so far anyway, look almost exactly like what we are seeing."
