I grew up in Stevenage, just outside London.
Last train home went Stevenage -> Newcastle -> Edinburgh.
I never spent the night in Edinburgh myself, but i had plenty of friends who did.

When I worked in Holborn, guys I worked with regularly reported ending up in Portsmouth or Southampton after a night out. Lightweights. ππ»

Woke up hours later in Cockfosters and missed his flight
But there was one train that only stopped in Glasgow, so I considered myself lucky.
βah, Esher. Nice train station youβve got thereβ, shame if any thing happened to it etc. Iβve just contextualised this as a South East Londoner. Esher to Surbiton is my Dartford to Greenwich. Solidarity brother.
Because of our national property incompetence he made more from that flat than his job for the time he owned it.
That was a fun call to my dad.
But you had to bang on the window next to them AFTER you got off.
So you got VERY good at becoming conscious, quickly, and diving off a train as the three door-warning beeps sounded.
A Β£120 taxi ride later & all was (mostly) well π€£
In the sixties he, a Manc, woke up on a train. In Edinburgh. Naked. In a mailbag.
On the morning of his wedding.
Friend once made it all the way out to Wembley, back to centre and part way out again on a night bus when driver took pity and woke her.
(I might be biased - I grew up in Hitchin and now live in Cambridge π)
