Education is obviously the bottleneck here

one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

All presidential systems have at one point or another turned into authoritarian regimes, but some parliamentary systems haven’t. Americans wouldn’t know of course.

Eh — I’m a big believer in epistemic realities being more complex than pure access to information. The reason people read “Trump is a threat to our democracy” and double down is not primarily due to their ignorance of the facts, it’s due to their identification with a parasocial echo chamber group

That said, more (ie free college) and better (ie school equity) education would certainly help. But I just don’t see it as either a short term solution, nor the primary bottleneck for the misinformation crisis
