Democratic comms operations are optimized for trying to get the most perfect message out even if it means nobody sees it instead of for speed and to get in front of as many people as possible. That's why the response seems so flat footed.

I mean, they must be waiting for lots of inputs then, because how hard is it to have a message written, edited, and approved within the span of a single business day?
It’s also because legislators keep thinking like legislators and not like executives. There’s a reason former Governors make better leaders than former Congressional reps. Even former mayors. They have been expected to make decisions and stand on them, not sidle up to whoever trades the most votes.
Having you considered the possibility that some of the leading 'centrists" at the tip of the Democratic party aren't really all that unhappy with lots of what's Trump is doing so long as they can claim they are trying to stop it?
Remember when Pelosi was able to whip up Democrats to force Biden out or keep AOC out of a committee chair?
She and other Dems had no problem getting on TV to say Biden had to go, immediately after the debate, so where are they now?
Also their “most perfect message” is usually trying to own republicans by being more consistently far right than they are (“er um guess donald drumpf doesn’t back the blue after all 😏”)
Fundamentally, the party isn't going to change until it rids itself of the people who have been there for a generation+, imo.
Voters have been asking for change for decades and the party's answers (in policy, messaging, and candidate selection) has been to keep power w/ more or less the same ppl.
On the other hand, I could hold a press conference and it would be relegated to the 12th graph of a 13 graph NYT article about how Trump is ‘challenging norms.’
The best thing everyone left of Trump could do is talk to every friend of theirs whose businesses will be hurt by Trump’s bullshit.
They need to hire shitposters for every senator and congressperson. Or have like a 200 person strong shitposter brigade at the DNC. Create a jobs program for the terminally online, its a win-win for all involved
And for whatever reason "perfect message" includes trying to not annoy anyone. Which is first, impossible & second, if you send out a message that drives the right into rage spasms, that results in your message receiving more attention. You should welcome that if the message is sharp.
Like, it's a crisis, you need to act like it. If you're not going to try to be bold now, the furthest point before the next election, then when? Nobody will blame you if you're doing this at the Treasury Department
you know, conservatives never worry about what other people think. racist R backbencher gets a standing O from 14 groypers at a convention, they act like a rock star. most dems seem too scared to do anything without advance approval from chuck todd
