Since we can no longer trust that USA will protect us against Russia with its nuclear umbrella we need to protect ourselves with our own nuclear umbrella. Putin has taught us never to trust Russia.
See my post on Ukraine saying they are considering creation of tactical nukes which they estimate could be done in a couple of months. Don't need ICBMs as Russia is nearby.
Ukraine has spent fuel they could extract plutonium from fairly quickly, they don't need centrifuges or enrichment programs. Problem is a plutonium core requires you to use an implosion device to detonate it, much more complex than a Uranium gun type. Even with one it won't deter Russia currently.
Gun type devices with a uranium core are fairly easy to design, the problem with uranium is enriching it is a massive undertaking. You can chemically purify plutonium to weapons grade but making a weapon is harder. The physics and engineering behind implosion bombs that fit on a warhead are TOUGH.
Are there really idiots who truly believe that France risks Russian nuclear retaliation for a small Baltic country barely larger than Paris?
First golden rule of international relations: when the shit rise, first secure your own ass.
Nukes are like a poison pill hidden in your gums or the last grenade for yourself. Either would be your last act with little consequence for your adversary. In order to deter you must have quantity and means for delivery so the threat of this last act is highly consequential.
Nukes for EU nukes for Ukraine and with the US looking at land grabs nukes for Mexico and Canada. Sadly this is what the world is being pushed to BC of 2 greedy assholes
This is good, but the underlying lesson has already been learned: you can't swap from one protector to another and not expect them as well to betray you, when winds change.
Ukraine and other countries are probably reconsidering their stance on developing their own nuclear weapons.

How will the Trump administration respond to this?
How does this affect current nuclear deterrence strategies and tactics and expectations?
What are the implications for future deterrence and world order?
TRUMP TOO STUPIED TO KNOWS THIS !
