Hang on, I’m gonna need help here. Is it just that it’s not nuanced? because while, I’m no historian, I have read a fair bit about witch trials and from my
understanding, bodies did get purified. Is it that not a lot of people were burned alive at the stake that is at issue?

The issue is that while there was definitely a gendered dynamic at play, many men were also accused, and the whole "witch hunts were women hunts" claim is inaccurate at best. (1/3)
In addition, witch hunts were often done by secular authorities, not necessarily the church. (2/3)
In practice, though, most cases did not follow this model. (3/3)
