We are indeed lucky, but I keep thinking about the expression "may you live in interesting times". Given what could be waiting in the wings I would take a return to slightly more boring times by the next election. Actually, I keep hoping that all this is just a bad dream but I don't think it is.

It’s a big ask to start a new political party from scratch and then win an election. UKIP were very popular years ago but did little in general elections. It depends if there are enough idiots in the UK to elect Farage. One would hope not. The media aren’t helping though.

We do, it’s odd really that people want to suck up lies. But Reform voters also hate electric cars, climate change, vaccines, solar power, black people and a lot of things that are good and sensible. They are an odd bunch.

They are reactionaries. Lots are so-called "traditional" working class people who just hate and fear the modern world and the changes it brings. They are the kind of people who want those imaginary 1950s back, seeing it as some kind of golden age, which it wasn't because I was a child back then.

Is that why Starmer/Reeves are majoring on headline-grabbing and very unpopular policies, at present (eg WASPI pension refusal, removing winter fuel payment from millions, etc) - that they can claim Badenoch would do even worse things. Is that really a sound basis for government?
