hum.... fraud, theft, plagiarism, how to deal with change, and code kills (see Therac-25 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ap0orGCiou8, Hyatt Regency collapse and City Group building in NYC for explicit reason why ethics class in STEM is essential)
I got kicked out of my college's honors program for very dumb "you must opt in every semester and you get the boot if you forget" reasons. But the best thing it ever did was force my STEM major ass to sit through the humanities.
…10 of them died of infections, 3 injured themselves, and the last 2 became super-intelligent, began plotting the downfall of humanity, and HAD TO BE STOPPED.
No, an ethics class would not have prevented this. If you somehow reached college without understanding this was bad, there isn't a class that is going to save you.
But if the ethics professor fails them enough times, it might at least leave a paper trail that they're a terrible person who shouldn't be trusted with new technology.
Or even if they have a formal education, its not related to tech. i.e. back in NYC, I knew a damn fine person who worked as a developer/devops who was hobbyist coder. He had a Masters in English. Not uncommon.
If you really think a liberal arts education is going prevent unethical behavior, just note JD Vance as a BA in Philosophy. Rudolph Guillanni was a DA has a law degree. Trump has a liberal arts degree.

No shortage of people with media and communications degrees grace the halls of newsmax, fox, OAN, and before that the vast network of AM radio stations. Henry Kissinger had a PhD, again, in philosophy.
Did all those "liberal arts" degrees specifically contain ethics classes? Have you personally checked the content of every one of those ethics classes they took?
Sure, maybe being a decent person is a decider here, but I can only see actually good ethics classes helping and at least not hurting.
Feel like there's going to be at least one ethics course in the future that is going to consist of examining Elon Musk's antics and punching any student that utters "you know, he had some good ideas".
Wait till you hear about how many animals died testing antibiotics, or vaccines, or heck even your shampoo and face cream. Medical science has a very dark side. But it also saves a lot of people.

You also make a bold assumption that formal college education is a hard gatekeeper for tech, its not. a lot of people don't have a formal education.

Definitely a good look to tie this trial run to the cosmetic industry, famous for its needless torture of animals and how pissed people get at that.
Definitely doesn't make it look like needless torture of animals lumping it with shampoo.
I would like to invite you to be a guest on my live podcast sometime, to chat about it all!
Cheers!!!
