I've seen it repeated a few times but I can't stop thinking about it: in the, say, 50s, cost of living(rent etc) was far lower, but THINGS were more expensive. You could live comfortably, if you simply bought less. Now it's the opposite, cost of living is huge, and THINGS are cheap
