well, it's a hypothetical! as in - let's say it actually *was* capable beyond technical competency, indistinguishable from human creativity would you then use AI? fwiw my answer is no, but I think it's worth thinking about! personally, "it's not good enough" is not at the root of my dislike for AI - ThreadSky

If we ever reach that point then we'll have Futurama-level robots, which implies consciousness and means, imo, that they must be treated just like humans. But that's never happening in my lifetime.

"if it was better than any human, on all axis you could evaluate it, at the thing you wanted it to do would you use it" sorta feels like a bit of a too-perfectly constructed scenario, like yeah if you get rid of every problem you could possibly have with it, including second order stuff then i guess

idk the usefulness or it's skillfulness isn't the determining factor to me, the same way I might not want to work with the world's best artist if they also happen to be a complete asshole in their personal life, on a moral level

(which also informs my feelings on the current gen AI)

There’s a clip from @finalv3.zip a few months ago that sums up my feelings on AI pretty well- even if it’s useful, the stuff that it takes away is the part that’s actually fun for me, so why would I use it?

There’s a certain joy in spending hours rooting through docs to solve a problem
