I recently read about one of the guys that used to own BS encouraging people to stay on at that other place. You can look into it if you're so inclined but I thought that was strange tbh.
It means that anyone can create a clone with no legal troubles at all (open source), and because there isn't a single company or entity that owns it (decentralized), it will be very difficult to completely shut down.
Hopefully the owners of this platform will ask its users to buy in as an owner to block any billionaire takeover. I would invest my money in this platform.
Hopefully he won’t! We need to band together and stop this billionaire takeover of freedom of speech. Everyone has a voice that needs to be heard regardless of sexual orientation, and beliefs. It’s BS that they continue to suppress the truth tellers.
Elon didn't buy Twitter, the Russians and Saudis did.
And the only wanted it to influence the election.
They will make their money back many times over.
Honestly the fact people are still referring to the $15.9bn of "reported" election spending (as if it means anything whatsoever) blows my mind.
They got us for a song even if they lose the whole $40+bn on that pile of toxic garbage.
Many here think since this platform is open source, it can’t be purchased. Actually, anyone can technically acquire or use an open-source platform, but there are nuances involved.
1. Open source means public code:
Open-source platforms are built on publicly available code that anyone can access, modify, and use under the terms of its license.
a) Pay for a company offering services or support for the platform (e.g., Red Hat for Linux).
b) Acquire the company that develops or maintains the open-source platform to gain control over its direction like Bluesky for example.
How does an open-source platform like Bluesky make money? Donations, grants, paid hosting/services, freemium features, sponsorships, merch, enterprise tools, or funding from investors. Open source does NOT mean free to run—staff still needs to be paid!
I’ll go back to finishing all the books I’ve been buying/collecting. 📚 😉
I have enough to keep me busy into my 100s!
If I live that long and still have my eyesight. 🤞📖👀
I actually still have books from when I was 10.
I’ve divorced 2 mean alcoholics but I still have all of my books, movies & rocks.🤩

You can’t “buy” the open-source software itself because it’s freely available. However, you can:

We'll find something 😁

if it happens, remember the 5,000 years of written history before the Internet.
