Damn near everyone has a cell phone with a web browser. You can literally type in "how do tariffs work" and there are results, even a tariffs for dummies. 30 seconds could prevent ignorance. No one fact checks anything anymore and we literally have a computer in our pockets. 🤦🏼♀️
Tariffs are so basic. I don't understand the confusion. Perhaps if someone simply said: tariffs are intended to slow/stop imports to allow a country's own producers a financial advantage over another country's companies. Nah, still to complex for the 21% of Americans who are functionally illiterate.
Oh hell yeah. There's a lot of makeup homework to do for the last 30 years. But primarily with Bush The Junior's No Child Left Behind (which of court meant the opposite).
I watched this whole interview, and the young man was seriously ill-informed. Pakman was patient and explained a LOT of things he just did not understand. To be fair to the young fellow, he was willing to hear it, admitted when he didn't know something, and was open to the argument.
I think that all people should have the right to vote, BUT...
There should be a 30 question test (multiple choice) on the policy positions of the candidates. If you don't understand what you're fucking voting for, your vote's shot into the fucking sun.
And wait till they find out the next thing: those importers will import less, because they know their sales will drop as people discover they can't afford the higher price. If all importers cut back, it can mean shortages, so the price goes even higher. They can recover their profits selling less.
I saw Walter Masterson having the same conversation with a Trump merch guy at one of his rallies. A guy who buys his t-shirts from China.

It amazes me that they think another country is going to pay extra money (tariffs) and simply put, not have that cost passed onto the consumer. It's a special kind of stupid that really makes me shake my head.

Exactly. He KNOWS they’re uneducated and uninformed and that’s what he loves because he can say anything and they’ll believe it because it came out of his mouth.
What Id like to say is he likes people that lack empathy. You dont need to know the criminal law codex by heart to know what is right and wrong. You just need to have basic empathy. Information is available, but only if you want to read. And good people can feel when something is not right.
The ignorance is just staggering...democracies depend on an informed & engaged citizenry & they're vulnerable to the absence of introspection...the inability to perceive one's own intellectual blindspots. What a *disaster* for our country that so many voters fall into this category...😞
