We here in Quebec were pretty bummed when we found out a careless drone operator damaged one of our water bombers but being upset doesn’t put out the fire. We carry on.
Isn't it a sad indication of the world where the term "I can't believe someone did that" is no longer accurate. Thank goodness everyone is Ok and I hope no one dies as a result of this stupidity. The only silver lining is that the drone will have been destroyed in the accident.

I hope that drone operator is found, criminally prosecuted & also sued in civil court by Coulson. Those water bombers & their pilots are amazing & are definitely key tools in successful wildland fire fighting today.

You've obviously never experienced the Santa Ana winds. Super dry, hot, & strong winds combined with tinder dry fuels it just takes a spark to set off these blazes.
This is not first time arsonists choose windy forecasts to light these fires. 3 are caught already with total MAGA profiles. I am not certain but it is going that direction
Watched the flights on Flightradar. Amazing to see how they just keep going back to the reservoir time and time again. Real actions to combat the problem. Not MAGA whining fake outrage that’s all they know how to do.
These water bombers could have hit fires earlier if the fires were in the bushland areas like here near homes - the fires didn't start in the bushland - they started in the townships where those hurricane SANTA - ANA winds pushed flames into homes.

I’m a retired 40 year helicopter pilot and so, very experienced. I can tell you that these pilots are doing the best they can! It’s EXTREMELY dangerous and difficult to fly these missions! Cudos, pilots!

Those helicopters made quick work of the Sunset Fire, which was spreading so quickly. I was within a few blocks of the mandatory evac zone - it was terrifying. And then those helicopters started dropping water so accurately that they got it under control before morning. Heroes.
Yeah, the fire fighters with a shovel and grip hoe or Pulaski, scraping a fire line and breaking fire apart and smothering it with dirt. They work hard, long hours. Been there...
This is perhaps the most dangerous flying you can do outside of combat. Low and slow is already risky, and fire creates winds that add to the danger. There’s no time to recover when you’re this low. These pilots are heroes.
Proud of the Americans fighting these fires. Thankful to our friends and allies from Canada and Mexico sending aid and first responders. Ashamed that we again have a US President elect attacking our own in their time of need.

My son was a wildlands firefighter. My impression is that it is always this way. That is a lot of water and it is heavy. It is counterintuitive to the way it looks without the truck there.
Yes, Force. Mostly life saving force! My husband was a Hot Shot for 7 years and then a fire management officer. On one fire they were surrounded and had a slurry drop on the whole crew, "lay down, cover your head"!!! It saved their lives.
