No, Islam means submission (to Allah), not peace. And Muhammad was not a peaceful man to non-Muslims, nor does the Quran teach peace towards non-Muslims.

Individual Muslims can be wonderful loving peaceful people, though, and it is important to keep that in mind instead of generalizing.
