I was actually wondering about that. I feel like the Caldecotts are so much more well-known. But #PB writing is a special craft that takes a skillset - not to minimize the art awards/awardees. (The pie can always be bigger.) #kidlitchat

I love about the Sibert and the Printz (among others) that they award all the creators of the book. #kidlitchat It's tough on Newbery when you're not allowed to consider the pictures unless they detract.

i agree--although it is possible for a PB to win the Newbery. I look to SCBWI's Golden Kite and Crystal Kite awards to fill that gap. #kidlitchat

I agree, both ought to be celebrated equally. Though I do think overall the illustrators are a bit under appreciated (authors are more well known, their names are often bigger on the book etc).
