Monopoly power is dreadful for growth. One of the UKs biggest problems is large companies buying and ruining promising start ups to preemptively eliminate competition. Amidst other problems.

Your mention of the 1% reminds that something like 10% of people are responsible for more than 50% of flights. Couldn't find a recent assessed figure for it.
Or another way round, most of people don't fly (even in the context of wealthy nations).

I just wish you would all treat carbon budgets like financial budgets. If our carbon budget is used on this project, then you cut elsewhere? We have limited carbon to spend. Just because it’s not visible, you ignore it. If it were purple, it would get more attention because the harm would be seen.

Time to ration flying. Every person has one trip. If you want to make more you have to buy unused flight entitlement from those who don't use it. Spreads money to people who don't fly and naturally caps the flights.
Eliminating the need for new runways polluting and killing yet more natural habitat.

No, it's time employees were paid living wages and take a fair share of the economic pie. Which they will spend in the economy.
Not building unnecessary things like runways and forcing building on green space to further fail the environment.
Whilst failing to reform the economics underneath.

True. But may I also add that we need immigration to achieve growth. It is important that we are honest about that.
If we don't want immigration to grow our population that is fine, too, but then we will have to work out how we run a zero growth or even negative growth economy.

Why don’t we pay for some public services through wealth taxes, progressive taxation, equalising capital gains with income tax etc? Why do the rich seem to be untouchable, so that any extra spending has to come from skimming off a layer from growth?
