i do wonder if we see EV price cuts as a result of this, or if sales just drop over the next few months

Canada’s $5,000 federal EV subsidy unexpectedly ended on money after the program ran out of money, and since parliament is prorogued there’s no way to authorize new funds to allow it to continue — if it ever returns.

I’m wondering that too. Interest rates are on the decline and if automakers cut the EV prices by even a few thousand the loss of the rebate might not have an impact. If so it might be a blessing in disguise since the rebate is in that grey area of questionable uses of public money.

i’ve always wondered whether they charge a little more for the EVs than they would otherwise because the rebate is there, so i guess we’ll see

Without, what are known in 🇮🇪 as the ev grants, taxi driver ev purchases would go off a cliff. They currently give €20k to taxis here. It’s the only thing driving sales of ev’s to cabbies.

If companies wanted to maintain sales, they would have to drop the price dramatically. No question.

I feel like makers have been marking up EV prices somewhat knowing that buyers only cared about the end price, but I don’t know enough about the car industry to know the margins
