a lot of big modern AP leaves me cold bc it feels like it does so much of its production "pre-table". put simply, i love AP bc i love games & games are in part abt The Process. if i didn't want to hear some of that work being done-- personally-- i'd listen to scripted fiction

this is part of what i do consistently value about friends at the table, is that they aren’t afraid to leave like 20 minutes of Shop Talk in the final recording rather than glossing past everything that’s not a narrative scene

also and maybe even more important is that they leave in discussion of options they *don’t* take - they will chase an idea for a while, explore the ways it could turn out, and then totally pivot

my biggest passions in life might, sigh, be TTRPGs & the craft of editing. i'm a weird dork who cares deeply abt games & abt Creating A Whole From Parts. when i produce AP i want to feel like the performers trusted me to make a show out of their game rather than making the show before they played it

obvs this is a different angle than what jeff is talking abt, but it clicked together for me!! i'd propose that a lot of "non-fiction-first" AP is done largely at the table & a lot "fiction-first" AP is done largely before. & i have Feelings abt what is most prevalent in the genre/medium/form/lol
