#BeatlesAtoZ ‘B’
Blackbird (McCartney for Lennon & McCartney) is one of my all time fave songs from The Beatles/White Album and sides 1&2 are probably my most-played #Beatles record. Recorded solo by Paul and inspired by the Black civil rights movement in the southern US. #TheBeatles

Beyoncé's Blackbird cover isn't in that league but I found it very moving to hear her sing it, given McCartney's inspiration for writing it.
Come Together (Lennon for Lennon & McCartney) was one of John’s personal favourite #Beatles songs that he himself wrote. He described it as “a funky record” and “bluesy, and I’m singing it pretty well. I like the sound of the record. You can dance to it. I’d buy it!”
#TheBeatles
Day Tripper (Lennon-McCartney) written to order when #TheBeatles needed a single at the end of 1965, ‘Day Tripper’ was released as a double a-side with ‘We Can Work It Out’ and is about ‘tripping’ on drugs. It was initiated by John because he liked the word ‘tripper’.
#Beatles
Eleanor Rigby (Paul for Lennon & McCartney). Initiated by Paul and completed with the other #Beatles, although John contested authorship. It continued #theBeatles more experimental, studio-based arrangements and broke with popular music conventions, both musically and lyrically.
Fixing A Hole (Paul for Lennon & McCartney). Thought to be about injecting heroin the song is Paul’s ode to marijuana and one of my all time favourite songs (not just of #theBeatles). I love the meandering imagery it conjures up all the way through. It’s musical art.
#Beatles
It has to be Get Back (Paul for Lennon & McCartney), #theBeatles satirical skit on racism. But some unused verses referencing Pakistanis caused some to label it racist. Personally I think if the #Beatles had been racist they would have used the derogatory P word in demos.
