Hand washing was unfortunately a culture war issue when it was first proposed. I meant to say that it’s been throughly established that masks help just like washing your hands does. It would be similarly ludicrous to argue against handwashing today.

Back then at least they had the excuse of worse science.

And now the entire UC system has banned masks. In the middle of a huge COVID surge. Glad I got out of CA and so far WA (well, the Seattle area anyway) doesn't seem to be considering these, but this is getting crazy.

I'm currently dealing with COVID for the fourth time. It's been 12 days now and I'm still not better. I'm fully vaxxed. But ever since the first time, seems like I catch every other strain. My partner has been told not to mask at work. I just don't want to die again.

I personally think it’s gonna be a harder sell for governments to insist on a mask ban for security reasons, now that smartphones can still identify you (for security purposes) with your mask on. I have an iPhone that has FaceID and it’s critical that I can keep my mask on when paying with my phone.

Also, the AI used in traffic cameras (eg red light violations) have a terrible false positive rate (one time in court I counted over 40% false positives), I don’t buy that facial reco tech used by cities is •that• reliable anyway.

So we should just all mask up and protect ourselves and others.

Also, I personally have difficulty understanding why “return to normal” requires a ban of any sort. If people want to return to normal, there shouldn’t be any forceful means to require citizens obey, they will just naturally do it (which they are and some are paying the price).
Mask bans confuse me.

COVID exacerbated my unknown disability to the point it nearly killed. Masked ever since. PA is starting to get weird about them now. Gov Shapiro isn't exactly disabled friendly. Blue MAGA rarely is. My partner works for the state, and they won't let her wear one now.
