The thing I felt robbed of was the arc where he gets to figure out his own way to be as the “dad” or big brother to his players. That would have brought all that stuff out over time. They gave him a 1-dimensional girlfriend instead.

That would have been good. Him trying out what kind of coach he wanted to be - his dad? No. Ted? Also not him. And coming to find his own way that uses what's best in his authentic self.
It's a bummer because I really like Nick Mohammed and I think he's great at that sort of softboy "I have disappointed everyone oh no :(" thing, so it would have been really powerful to see him, you know, grow beyond that???
